How to visit Ecuador
To visit Ecuador keep in mind the following recommendations:
VISA:
If you are European, Canadian, USA, Japanese, Australian, New Zealand, you do not need visa if you want to be up to 90 days. In this case you just need your passport and upon arrival in Quito you will receive a 60 or 90 days permision to be in Ecuador. However, if you want to be more than 90 days you need a visa, It is better if you visit firs the Ecuadorian Consulate in your city.
VACCINATIONS:
If you have doubts about the situation in Ecuador, please write us to inform you if there is any illness problem in any place. In the highlandas, we do not have malaria, nor tropical illnesses. If you are going to visit the coast or the jungle, it is possible that there is some malaria in a few places.We will inform you.
MONEY EXCHANGE:
Ecuador's currency is the US Dollar, however if you bring other currencies such as Euros, or other, you can change to Dollars in the big cities.
TRAVELLERS CHEQUES:
To avoid bringing to much cash, it is useful to bring travellers cheques which can be cashed in the big cities or you can pay various services with them, however, some of them charge 2% as the commission to be cashed.
CREDIT CARDS:
Credit cards are accepted in many companies, however, some of them charge around 10% additional.
TRANSPORTATION:
From Quito you can travel to most of the Ecuadorian cities by bus. To the farer citie the bus will take around 18 hours. There also airplanes to travel to far cities and takes around 45 minutes.
CLOTHING:
As Ecuador has all climates you need clothing for cold and for hot places.
TEMPERATURE:
In the highlands the minimum is around 8 and maximum around 22 degrees Celsius. In the coast and the jungle the minimum is around 21 and maximum 35 degrees Celsius.
ELECTRICITY: 110 V.
DRIVING: right side.
RENT A CAR: There are various companies where to get a car.
WARNINGS:
- Don't bring to much money while travelling in the city
- Don't accept drinks from unknown people
- Everywhere in big cities you must be careful
TAXI:
During the day they use a meter so it is easy to know how much to pay. In the evenings, they don't use meters so you should negociate first.
